VOYAGES & FRIENDS

A musical journey  touring 3 continents as a portrait of Manuel Wandji, a multi-disciplinary musician with a  mixed cultural background  and  explorer in search of artistic absolute.
Born of a Cameroonian father and French mother, mixed culture is at the centre of Wandji’s creations. As a writer for dance companies, singer /percusionist, and an image expert, his work and his music have travelled worldwide. Therefore, they translate movements and voyages as this multi-disciplinary artist continues to build bridges between men and artistic practices.

« Voyages & Friends » is the outcome of his cross-bred creations involving France, New York and Cameroon.

For 4 years, Manuel Wandji has taken us behind the scenes of his working sessions along side artists such as Manu Dibango (Paris) and famous beat boxer Kenny Muhammad (New York).
Dance is at the core of this documentary supported by interviews with personalities such as Bruce Ykanji (Juste Debout) or great choreographers such as Kader Attou (Cie Accrorap) and Georges Momboye.
During the film documentary we dive into the Equatorial Forest (Cameroon) to the beat of  traditional music and the sound nature as a source of inspiration to Wandji’s  creations. Trips to and from his recording studio (Besancon) landing on a stage, with his group, allow us to have a better understanding of his artistic approach.
«Voyages & Friends», is a 55 minutes documentary film directed by Guillaume Ajavon (photographer and videographer), Erik Grillo (director/editor) and  Manuel Wandji (Artist). It gives the viewer a wit inside bonus on the pixilation sequences  (Stop motion).
Heather Maxwell is the narrator.
The film is broadcast throughout 2022 on TV5 MONDE
